Acclaimed Artist Daniel Merriam
Debuts Latest Works at Spiritwind Gallery Oct. 10-15 Artist Reception Oct. 15
SEDONA, Ariz. - Regarded as one of the world's foremost contemporary surrealists, Daniel Merriam visits Sedona to debut his latest exhibition called "A Chance to Dream" at the Spiritwind Gallery at Tlaquepaque, #C-205. This exhibit, which runs October 10-15, includes nearly 20 of his latest originals and a series of limited edition releases. A special artist reception will take place at the gallery 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, October 15.
Merriam is featured in museum collections, major corporations, galleries and private collections worldwide. His striking images invite the viewer to venture beyond the threshold of consciousness into a magical and boundless realm of dreams.
Growing up in a small village on the coast of Maine, Merriam spent his early years learning the carpenter trade in his father's construction business and capturing images of his dream world by teaching himself to draw and paint. After two decades of painting professionally, Merriam has become well known for his mastery of the unforgiving medium of watercolor. Merriam has been the subject of more than a hundred one-man exhibits nationwide. He has become an icon for those who long to embrace the romantic exploration of their dreams with works that awaken the senses and spark imagination.
"It is only by matter of chance that I made my way through life as a dreamer," says Merriam. "But it is by choice that I still remain one."
Visitors to the exhibit will see a continuation of Merriam's more recent work in mixed mediums, melding watercolor and a variety of acrylic paints with more dense, deeper tones. A flagship piece, "Spellbound," stands 48" x 36 1/2" and is one of his larger, most ambitious creations to date.
Now in its third printing, his book, The Art of Daniel Merriam: The Impetus of Dreams, includes 10 years of images and an intimate look at the artist's background and personal philosophy that infuses his art. A book of his second 10-years in retrospective is scheduled for release in Spring '06.
