Internationally acclaimed artist, Robb Woods, has long been admired for his ability to capture the light, shadow and romantic uniqueness of every subject he chooses to paint. The magnificence of the Grand Canyon, the spirit of Southwest ranch life, and the elegance of a time gone by--these, and much more, are translated to canvas as only a master might hope to convey. Yet even with his remarkable gift, and a commitment to perfect it, such recognition does not come overnight.
As a young boy growing up in Glendale, Arizona, when the area was still defined by dairy farms and agriculture, Robb became fascinated with magazine illustrations. In those early days of Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, before the prominence of photography, many hours and days were spent with pen and pencil. It was soon thereafter, with an artist's eye, that he discovered the wonders of light and contrast. Nonetheless, like so many great artists, Robb spent much of his twenties at a 'real job'. Then, at the age of thirty-one, he met his wife Shirley and together they moved to Los Angeles. Leaving behind his position with the City of Phoenix Survey Dept., Robb was easily accepted into the prestigious Art Center College of Design.

Fortunately for us, his life has since been dedicated to art. Along with architectural renderings, and a period of time with the ABC Television Art Dept. as a commercial illustrator, these fulfilled his interests until 1973. It was then, more than three decades ago, that Robb Woods began painting with oils. He and Shirley, soon thereafter, moved back to Arizona where he began his 'fine art' career and has never looked back. Easily welcomed into the finest galleries, his early paintings quickly found a place alongside the most legendary Southwest artists. Instant popularity, continued success, and Robb's admiration for Northern Arizona, ultimately inspired them to build their own house near the red rocks of Sedona. The year was 1981. They had at last found their home, and Robb had found his niche. His love for this region, his passion for painting, and his skill at doing so, have continued to grow. And so, of course, has the world's appreciation.
All of us at Spiritwind feel very honored to represent this remarkable artist, and privileged to share his gift with those who visit. We invite each and every one of you to experience with your eyes, and with your heart, that which cannot be expressed in words. Is this not after all, why we have, and so admire, our artists and our poets?
