Martha Saudek
Landscape Impressionist

Martha Saudek, a native Californian, began painting at the age of five and her love for art has never faded. Only after a career in teaching, however, was she able to pursue it professionally. Martha then studied art at both Scripps and Pomona Colleges and pursued drawing and painting classes at UCLA and the California Art Institute. She subsequently taught classes at C.I.T. in oil landscape painting. Presently living in Laguna Woods, California, Martha particularly enjoys capturing the light in her paintings. Her subject matters are most often landscapes, but scenes will vary, as she paints rivers and streams, majestic mountains, clouds, trees and beautiful gardens all with equal facility. Painting exclusively in oil, her passion is creating scenes that convey her love for the beauty of nature.

Martha Saudek's fine oils are in private collections throughout the United States as well as Europe, Japan and Taiwan. She was one of six award winners in The Artist's Magazine's 1992 national landscape painting competition and one of only four chosen in the Grumbacher's 1995 national Gold Medal Awards. U. S. exhibitions of her paintings include those in the Top 100 of the 'Art for the Parks' competition in Jackson, WY, 1994 & 1996 and in the top 200, '95 and '97. In 2001 they awarded her with first place, Western Division.

Other such honors include the Cork Gallery, Avery Fisher Hall and Lincoln Center; open juried exhibitions of the Allied Artists of America, the Salmagundi Club, and the Professional Artists' League, all in New York City; the Capitol Rotunda, House of Representatives, Washington, D.C.; The Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, AZ (the Museum has purchased two of her paintings for its permanent collection); the Phippen Museum, Prescott, AZ; the Peppertree Ranch show, Los Olivos, CA; and the Classic American Western Art exhibition at the Gene Autry Museum as well as an exhibition of California wetlands at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. She has also participated in exhibitions in Taiwan and Italy.

Magazine articles about her work have been published in The Revue Magazine, The Artist's Magazine, Art of the West, Southwest Art, Art Talk and Koh-I-Noor/Grumbacher's Palette Talk. Martha is in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in American Women. She has also given oil painting demonstrations on cable channels 19 and 56 in Los Angeles, California.
